The Kidz Power program is for boys and girls, ages 7-12. The initial objective is to introduce the sport of volleyball, as a whole, as much as possible. Because the skills of volleyball are so different from many other sports, it is easy to focus only on individual skills and the game is rarely played. Our goal is to teach the skills through modified, game-like play. The children will learn the volleyball skills technically correct, but since we use a smaller court and lighter ball, the athletes will fell success with their skills!
Understanding that young players within a group may be at different levels of body control and coordination, the Kidz Power program consists of 6 different levels of play or certification. Before a player advances to the next level, they must achieve the goals and requirements within their current level. Each level is sequential to ensure player development within the Kidz Power program. For example, Level I would be for the beginner – not just the beginner in relation to the sport of volleyball, but also a beginner in the general concepts of sport movement. Progressing forward, the players in Level VI will have competence in the entire game because of their skills of serving, passing, setting, roll hitting and volleyball sport movement. During the first meeting, the kids will be placed at their appropriate level and moved as deemed necessary throughout the course of the sessions. Although there is no formal notification of each athletes own level, they will continue to progress with appropriate advancement in skills and drills.
